Building wellbeing one day at a time.
It may be hard to know where to start when looking to address and improve your wellbeing levels. When is the best time to address these? Where do you even start? And why is wellbeing so important? To answer that last question first, managing your wellbeing effectively will build your resilience and capacity to take day to day pressures and stress a little more easily. Especially by being mindful and managing this on a daily basis. Working to be more present in how you are feeling on a daily basis can be a very good starting point in beginning to be more proactive in supporting your own wellbeing.
If you would like to start to be more proactive in managing your wellbeing here are 3 key questions to ask yourself at the beginning of each day.
A good place to begin would be to take a moment at the start of each day and ask yourself the question, how do I need to support myself today? Give yourself some specific wellbeing tasks to focus on each day. Think is there anything you can let go of today? Ask yourself if there is anything that you have direct control of and can focus on today.
Then once you have asked yourself that question and created some plans around that. The next question to ask yourself is, what can you do to nurture and support yourself today. Maybe you recognise that you are tired, so can you plan to get to bed earlier tonight? Maybe you are aware that getting a walk outdoors would be a good thing to help you unwind after work. What is it that you feel you specifically would like to give yourself to help you unwind?
Then finally ask yourself this, what can I say to myself today to support and empower me. How can I offer self-love and self-affirmations to myself today? Think of what you can do each day to value yourself. Is that choosing to take the pressure off yourself and be more accepting of yourself? Is it acknowledging that you are doing the best you can each day? Is it not being critical of yourself and accepting that as you grow you learn? We are all works in progress. So how can you be more self-accepting and offer yourself some positive love today?
So to recap, there are 3 questions you can ask yourself each day that will help keep you grounded and present in what you need to support your own wellbeing. Those are checking in with how you can best support yourself as you prepare for your day ahead, checking in with what will help nurture and support you to unwind and release any tensions from your day, along with finally doing a self-check around how you can proactively offer yourself some self-validation and self-affirmation as you prepare for your day.
And finally give yourself permission to be realistic about the expectations you put on yourself for the day ahead. None of us are perfect. We learn as we grow. Keep an open and curious heart and see how your day unfolds.
